Areas of Focus

There are numerous areas in which a new model that relies on a "community of communities" and a network for information-sharing can eliminate the deficiencies and inefficiencies of our current biomedical enterprise, as well as achieving a learning healthcare system to improve patient outcomes and accelerate research. Among the areas of focus for BIG Health to date are those which address:

  • The need for large numbers of patients and consumers available to share health profiles and participate in population-based and clinical research
  • Predictive models of high and low risk in cancer and other diseases; and mechanism for identifying high/low risk patients in order to develop tailored interventions
  • Electronic Health Records—extended for medical specialties—with standardized ontologies and data exchange specifications
  • Availability of large numbers of high-quality, clinically-annotated biospecimens
